The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has rescued 14 victims abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, confirmed the development in a statement issued Tuesday from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The victims were freed following sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical efforts targeting criminal elements operating within the maritime corridor. Acting on credible intelligence, joint security operatives intensified surveillance and carried out targeted raids across identified flashpoints, culminating in the safe rescue of all victims without injury.
Authorities said the rescued individuals are currently undergoing medical evaluation and debriefing, after which they will be reunited with their families.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the joint team for the successful operation, describing it as a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and intelligence-driven policing.
The Police further assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend all those responsible for the abduction and bring them to justice.
