The government of Sudan issues a call to nations worldwide and international agencies to provide essential humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing crisis within the nation. Allegations have been made by the government regarding the prolongation of the crisis, attributing it to support provided to rebel factions by certain nations. Sudan urges these nations to cease their sponsorship, thereby facilitating a resolution to the conflict.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Ahmed Jaboul, the Charge d’Affaires of Sudan in Nigeria, affirmed Sudan’s commitment to ensuring the equitable distribution of humanitarian assistance to all affected individuals. Emphasizing the imperative of humanitarian intervention in addressing the current crisis, he asserted its pivotal role in ultimately resolving the protracted conflict. Such measures, he contended, are essential to enable meaningful negotiations for a political settlement.
Expressing dismay over the lack of substantial progress since the crisis erupted a year prior, Jaboul highlighted the persistent refusal of rebel forces to disarm, despite the cessation of hostilities by the National Military Forces in most regions. He underscored the urgency of focusing efforts on humanitarian solutions, noting the insufficiency of aid received relative to commitments made, with even the limited aid being subject to interference by rebel forces.
Jaboul expressed grave concern over the continued incursions of rebel forces into central and western Sudan, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and disruption of civilian livelihoods. He deplored the rebels’ disregard for civilian safety and urged for concerted international condemnation of their actions.
Asserting Sudan’s willingness to engage in dialogue for a peaceful resolution, Jaboul cited previous negotiations in Jeddah in 2023 and reiterated the government’s adherence to its commitments. However, he lamented the failure of rebel forces to reciprocate, highlighting their continued occupation of civilian areas in defiance of agreements reached.
In light of these challenges, Jaboul called upon media organizations to responsibly report on the conflict in Sudan, promoting accuracy to advance humanitarian efforts, sustainable peace, and political resolutions. He further implored the international community to exert pressure on sponsors of rebel factions to cease their support, while also appealing for increased humanitarian assistance. Sudan stands prepared to facilitate the direct distribution of aid to affected populations within its borders, in collaboration with international donors.
