Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have neutralised 13 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Kareto, Borno State, after repelling an ambush along the Gubio–Damasak road on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
According to Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAISani Uba, Lieut. Col. the troops were escorting humanitarian relief trucks when the terrorists launched a coordinated attack, detonating two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and opening sustained fire on the convoy. Despite the sudden assault, the troops responded swiftly and decisively, bringing overwhelming firepower to bear on the insurgents.
The military reported that 13 terrorists were eliminated on the spot, while several others fled in disarray. Pursuit operations were immediately conducted, during which troops recovered significant arms and ammunition from the scene. Items seized included eight AK-47 rifles, ten AK-47 magazines, a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition, several primed IEDs, rolls of detonating cord wires, and other logistics materials, including a camel bag.
In the course of the operation, one soldier sustained minor injuries and is currently in stable condition. Four MRAP tyres were damaged, while two trucks were gutted by fire during the encounter. However, the convoy of humanitarian supplies was secured and successfully moved to Damasak under military protection.
The Army commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism, stressing that deliberate operations are ongoing across the region to prevent further insurgent activities. The military further assured the public that efforts to secure humanitarian corridors and ensure the safe delivery of relief materials to conflict-affected communities remain a top priority.
